More About Crazy and Creative People Supporting Others!

The idea behind CyclingForRekko is to gather the funding to build the ambulatory in Sarachoch. It is also an idea of crossing Europe on a bike to do so. Thinking about that for longer than ten seconds brings only one thought to my mind – THIS IS MADDNESS. It’s 1500km of rain, wind, sun, pain, solitude and annoying people in the comfortable cars. It’s 1500km for REKKO.

So to prove that there are some equally crazy people among billions living on this planet that decided to do something unique to support others I prepared another little LIST of RANDOM MAD CHARITY INITIATIVES. So we don’t feel so lonely!

1. THE HERO INITIATIVE

“The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterdays’ creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.”

2. THE SKETCHTRAVEL.

The Sketchtravel is a unique international charity art project.
This red sketchbook was passed from one artist’s hand to another like an Olympic torch in an artistic relay through 12 countries over 4 and half years.

This traveling museum contains the personal visions of 71 exceptional illustrators, animators and comic book artists, including artists such as Bill Plympton, James Jean, Rebecca Dautremer, Glen Keane, Frederick Back, and Hayao Miyazaki. Initiated by illustrators Dice Tsutsumi (Japan) and Gerald Guerlais (France), the project will culminate in an auction of the original book in Brussels on October 17, 2011. Proceeds from the auction and royalties from the book’s publication will be donated to the international literacy non-profit, Room to Read.

3. NOW, THAT WAS MADDNESS!

OLHA TSEIUKOVA, 32 years old Ukrainian woman, performed an extraordinary “escape from Alcatraz Island. She had to swim 1.5 miles in ice-cold water from the island with the jail of the same name located on it to San Francisco shore. It was not done for entertainment or in search of thrill, but to collect money to help Ukrainian homeless people.

Tseiukova has two higher educations and a Swedish institute diploma. She works for a well-known international oil and gas company, and this year she was transferred to Great Britain, where she is now responsible for commercial matters in the North Sea and Ireland. Tseiukova is also chair of the charity’s Ukrainian Trustees, which provides a safety net for homeless people in Ukraine. It is interesting that two years ago Tseiukova did not even know how to swim, but once she set this challenge, there was nothing to stop her from doing it. At the present, thanks to her swim, she collected almost 9,000 dollars, and this money is going to be used for needs of the homeless in Ukraine.

Please Matteo, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING THE SAME. CYCLING IS MORE THAN FINE!
